Codeplugs & Radio Programming

OBRA codeplug downloads, model notes, DMR programming reminders, and support paths for members configuring radios.

Available OBRA codeplug files

Codeplugs are radio-model and firmware specific. Before loading a file, confirm the exact model, firmware/CPS version, DMR ID, callsign, APRS settings, power levels, and local channel plan.

Programming checklist

ItemWhat to confirmCommon failure
Radio identityCallsign, DMR ID, radio name, APRS/GPS identity if used.Borrowed codeplug still contains another operator's identity.
Analog channelRX frequency, TX offset, PL tone, bandwidth, power, scan list.Wrong tone or simplex/repeater direction reversed.
DMR channelFrequency pair, color code, time slot, talkgroup contact, admit criteria.Correct TG on wrong time slot, or wrong color code.
ZoneLogical channel grouping: OBX Repeaters, DMR Local, Hotspot, Travel, EMCOMM.Channels exist but are hard to find in the radio.
Receive behaviorPromiscuous/digital monitor setting, RX group list, scan settings.Radio transmits but appears silent because RX behavior is too narrow.
Hotspot profileSimplex frequency, color code, talkgroup routing, BrandMeister hotspot password.Hotspot works but repeater fails because repeaters enforce stricter rules.

Zone the Operator Uses

Recommended OBRA zone structure

1

OBX Analog

Mamie 146.94, KDH 145.11, local simplex, regional repeaters, and net channels.

2

OBRA DMR

OBRA talkgroups, BrandMeister local access, NCPRN/PRN channels, and known training TGs.

3

Hotspot

Personal hotspot channels separated from repeater channels to avoid assuming the same TG behavior.

4

EMCOMM

Event simplex, AUXCOMM channels, Winlink support notes, and storm net references.

5

Travel

Common NC repeaters, statewide talkgroups, and analog calling frequencies.

6

Testing

Low-power test channels, dummy-load programming checks, and training-only channels.
